A Time for Sacrifice

Ok folks, I'm not Catholic, and I don't think any of you are, but I celebrate Lent. For those of you who don't know what Lent is, it's the 40 days before Easter. During this time, we are supposed to give something up that we truly enjoy, as Jesus gave his life for us.

So I ask, what are you giving up for Lent, if anything?

I forgot to mention that it started today (2/9/05), which I forgot, so what I give up will take effect tomorrow.

Anyway, and this may come as a shock to you all, but I'm giving up Mountain Dew for Lent. And that includes all forms of Mountain Dew, regular, LiveWire, Code Red, you name it, it's gone. Mello Yello will also fall into this category, even though it is a pauper compared to Mountain Dew.

So there you have it. The worst part is that I extra-forgot about Lent, and I've got about...30 cans of it left at the apartment still. >_<

ouchie, extra temptation. Lent is a cool idea but I don't think I've ever consciously given anything up for it. Food is a good idea, I could do chips of some kind. Or I could just ignore Lent and torment all of you who celebrate it :P

I agree with Moog. Scrap Lent and torment those who celebrate it.

Oooh . . . Lent. Today there was a Lent communion service at SPU, and a bunch of people were walking around with ash on their foreheads afterwards. I had fun making fun of Christy . . . "Hey Christy, you've got a little something right here . . . " ;) But anyway, I'm not sure what I'd give up. The only thing I'm really addicted to is the internet. I would have to give up blogging for a month or some such.

I was actually already going to observe Lent, but forgot that it started today until someone else mentioned it. So if I remember (I may have to write it on my hand...) I will be giving up junk food. This includes stuff from the vending machines, Starbucks, and the brownies that they usually have during Intervarsity on Thursday nights.....:/ In a way, though, it was nice that I didn't remember it was today, because Sally and I had a good time hanging out at the oh-so-trendy bakery downtown (trust me, it is one of few things still cool in the downtown area). I expect to be eating lots of bananas....... and blah tasting cereal for breakfast as opposed to my usual bowl of sugary stuff with milk. :P Do they announce on the news or something when Lent is over, or do I have to keep track of it myself?

Oh wait.....Josh's Birthday is this weekend.....how will I manage that? Perhaps I can say no junk food unless it's served to me, so then I don't come off as being rude. Am I allowed to do that?

Lent ends on Easter, but since I started a day late, my days are over on the Monday following.

Oh Whatever Dan, there is no such thing as the Lent Patrol or something. I revised my goal on the same day. That counts for me. Also, I've already managed to biff it anyway. :\

I am giving up coffee and pop... there have probably been five or six times already that I have accidently almost had a pop/coffee... but I have succeeded in staying away thus far. (And I have even been to Starbucks in the time being! Booya!)

I gave up tomato soup. I know that's kind of odd, but I LOVE it and have been eating it at least once every one to two days for a few months.
